Aside from our work with members, we also undertake bespoke consultancy and grant work, both with members and other organisations across the UK. This helps us to build new partnerships, and channel the skills and learning gained from these projects back into our core membership offers.
We work closely with our customers to identify their individual needs and capabilities, and design a tailored package of support to meet these requirements. This can range from a single topic or training course, to a combination of support initiatives for a single organisation, or health and care system.
This might include facilitation, leadership team coaching, capability training, design of new care models, improvement programmes to address clinical priorities, and data analysis.
Below you can find examples of consultancy work we can offer or have carried out recently. We can support customers on any of these topics, or work with you to co-design a bespoke package based on one or more of our programmes for members.

- Leading Complex System Change
With the current health and care landscape difficult to navigate, leaders often find themselves ill-prepared for a multi-agency approach to transforming care for local people. To help address this, we can work with teams to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours of successful system leaders, how to operate effectively in a complex environment and build strong relationships, and jointly address place-based challenges to achieve improved outcomes.

- Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs)
We can offer a flexible package of support across either the entire NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plans geography, or to Local Delivery Plan footprints. Working closely with local teams, we can help build STP quality improvement and system leadership architecture to help tackle STP priorities. - Restraint Reduction Training
Building on our work on the REsTRAIN YOURSELF programme alongside The Health Foundation, we are able to offer bespoke training to support teams in reducing the use of restraint across Mental Health Inpatient Units to meet the latest NICE guidance.
We can provide teams with a tailored package of support to meet their needs, including a combination of onsite training in restraint reduction techniques and strategies, quality improvement, and managing challenging behaviours, as well as monthly action learning sessions, team coaching, and programme evaluation. - Board Development Sessions
We work with executive and non-executive teams in NHS organisations in England, to examine the role of the Board and Governing Body in leading strategic quality, and developing a culture of quality and safety. This work can be done with individual boards, or with groups of boards, often in a geographical area.
- Quality Improvement Training
Our Academy team can support staff to develop their skills and knowledge of quality improvement, to allow them to plan and implement improvements across their individual roles, teams, or services. Our staff have a wealth of improvement knowledge and expertise, and can produce a tailored package of support to suit your needs, including onsite training and events, coaching, remote support, and help with planning and implementing improvement aims and projects.
- Shared Decision Making & Self-Management Support
Our tailored approach provides teams with bespoke support to improve both their professional practices and system processes, to enable truly collaborative relationships between professionals and service users. Using Quality Improvement approaches we facilitate teams to develop their own strategies for improvement, exploring their barriers to working in partnership with service users, and helping them find opportunities for wider community based collaboration. We welcome enquiries from established clinical teams as well as groups of professionals working across a system or pathway.
- Well Led Reviews
In partnership with Mersey Internal Audit Agency (MIAA), these reviews for NHS Foundation Trusts are undertaken in line with the national framework established by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), NHS Trust Development Authority, and Monitor.
We work closely with Trusts to undertake reviews of their governance procedures, and help those organisations applying for Foundation status.
